A Stochastic Process Algebra Model for the Analysis of the Alternating Bit Protocol

چکیده
Abstract We illustrate an application of the integrated approach for modeling and analyzing concurrent systems proposed in [4]. The case study concerns the alternating bit protocol. The protocol is specified by means of a set of terms of the stochastic process algebra EMPA, and then studied from the functional and the performance point of view after constructing the semantic models associated with the terms.

Verification of Random Behaviours
We introduce abstraction in a probabilistic process algebra. The process algebra can be employed for specifying processes that exhibit both probabilistic and non-deterministic choices in their behaviours. Several rules and axioms are identified, allowing us to rewrite processes to less complex processes by removing redundant internal activity. Using these rules, we have successfully conducted a...
متن کاملAn example of performance evaluation by using the stochastic process algebra: ROSA
We present an algebraic language for the description of probabilistic and non-deterministic processes, which allows us to evaluate performance indexes as well as to check some temporal requirements: ROSA (Reasoning On Stochastic Algebras). As application, we analyse the Alternating Bit Protocol obtaining the average time to send a message, considering that channels may fail with a known probabi...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of Distributed Systems Based on a Discrete Real- and Stochastic-Time Process Algebra
We present a process-algebraic framework for performance evaluation of discrete-time discrete-event systems. The modeling of the system builds on a process algebra with conditionallydistributed discrete-time delays and generally-distributed stochastic delays. In the general case, the performance analysis is done with the toolset of the modeling language χ by means of discrete-event simulation. ...
متن کاملProcess algebraic modeling of authentication protocols for analysis of parallel multi-session executions
Many security protocols have the aim of authenticating one agent acting as initiator to another agent acting as responder and vice versa. Sometimes, the authentication fails because of executing several parallel sessions of a protocol, and because an agent may play both the initiator and responder role in parallel sessions. We take advantage of the notion of transition systems to specify authen...
متن کاملNMSPA: A Non-Markovian Model for Stochastic Processes
In this paper we introduce a new Stochastic Process Algebra: NMSPA. This new language presents the usual features of stochastic models but probability distributions are not restricted to be exponential. This fact increases the expressive power of the language in several ways. For example, we can specify actions that can be executed with probability 1 in a finite amount of time, so-called passiv...
